VIDEO: STL IGDA Presents: Upping Your Game Music and Sound
September 11th, 2014
This presentation is designed to help game developers understand in-depth the role music and FX can play in their games. Not only will developers come out feeling they know a bit more about music and sound design in general, but they will also be able to make better decisions on how to manipulate player’s emotions and reactions through the creative use of it. Developers will learn how to create a clear and thoughtful asset list for their game. They will also learn how to use better vocabulary when communicating with musicians so both parties are happy with the final product.
Presenter Bio:
Patrick Crecelius graduated from Berklee College of Music with a major in Music Production and Engineering. He owns Cedar Box Studio, a homegrown music education and recording business that has been serving St. Louis for 7 years. He has engineered and produced albums by many St. Louis artists, such as Tommy Halloran, Ryan Spearman, and Fred Friction. As a guitar/bass/ukulele instructor he has taught countless students through private lessons, group classes, and workshops. Cedar Box regularly does recording projects and open mic events for their students.
More recently Patrick started Fat Bard with fellow St. Louis musician Zach Fendelman. While the realm of video game scoring is relatively new for Patrick, he has been part of the scoring process as music director for various independent films as well as an MTV pilot (Meet the Bulldogs) while a student in Boston. He is of course also an avid gamer, who has been playing since the NES era. Fat Bard is currently doing music/fx for a variety of titles, including the upcoming Crashlands by Butterscotch Shenanigans and Tim Hely’s 1GAM project.
